Read Time: 2 minutes

Takeaways:

  • Pink Night is more than a volleyball game鈥攊t鈥檚 a community tradition of hope, remembrance, and action against cancer.
  • Local efforts like Pink Night make a real difference by supporting cancer research that touches lives across Utah and beyond.

Impact: Thanks to the philanthropic support of our community, Huntsman Cancer Institute continues to drive forward innovative research and advanced treatments that bring hope to families everywhere.

The Morgan High School volleyball team was playing at Skyline High School on the night the Skyline Eagles hosted their Pink Night fundraiser.

The game inspired Morgan High School Trojan head coach Liz Wiscombe and assistant coach Julia Fisher, who went home and started brainstorming.

What they created became one of the biggest nights in Morgan. For 13 years, the entirety of Morgan County and beyond has come together to raise money for cancer research at Trojan volleyball鈥檚 annual Pink Night.

鈥淓veryone is affected in some way by cancer. We have lost one volleyball player and others from our volleyball family to cancer. It is dear to our hearts to make sure continued advances are being made to help cure this disease,鈥 Julia says.

鈥淲e have a passion and drive that propels us to keep going. We feel, as a team and community, that it brings us all together to fight for a good cause.鈥

People from inside and outside Morgan County donate to a silent auction, while multiple families make quilts to be auctioned and raffled during the game. The parents and players work together to make things happen before and during the evening, making it a successful community event. The players help tie the quilts and go around to businesses to collect items for the silent auction, while the parents donate and sell treats at the Pink Treat Table throughout the night.

There is also a Pink Parade, where people of all ages walk around the gym wearing pink, and prizes are given out to the winners for each category. There are two signed volleyballs auctioned off each year, one signed by the Morgan High School and Ben Lomond High School volleyball teams, and one signed by Morgan High School鈥檚 cheerleaders and drill team.

The Ben Lomond High School Scots even do their part, being amenable each year to playing a game that includes frequent stops and starts to allow all the activities to take place. Morgan High School is incredibly grateful for Ben Lomond High School鈥檚 support as the Scots help make the night a success. After the game, both teams share a big dinner together.

鈥淛ust like we battle to do our best at every volleyball game, we want others to fight to win their battle with cancer,鈥 Julia says. 鈥淲e realize that everyone is affected by cancer.鈥

Morgan High School鈥檚 14th Pink Night will take place on Tuesday, October 7, with the varsity game beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Federal funding and donor support enable breakthroughs.
