The John A. Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah is pleased to welcome Joseph Simonett, MD, a specialist providing compassionate, expert care for complex retinal conditions.
Dr. Simonett provides medical and surgical care for patients facing eye diseases and conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinovascular disease, ocular trauma, and dislocated intraocular lenses. He also conducts related clinical research and has published over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles.
Dr. Simonett earned his medical degree from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and completed residency at Oregon Health and Science University鈥檚 Casey Eye Institute. He then completed a vitreoretinal fellowship at the Moran Eye Center, training under the recently retired Michael P. Teske, MD.
After spending three years at a private practice in Oregon, Dr. Simonett says he was drawn back to Moran by an opportunity to care for patients while training the next generation of eye surgeons.
鈥淚t鈥檚 really exciting to be back,鈥 said Simonett. 鈥淢oran is a wonderful place for collaboration. I can walk down the hall to consult with experts from other eye sub-specialties to provide the best possible care for complex patients.鈥
Dr. Simonett is accepting new patients at Moran鈥檚 University, Midvalley, and South Jordan locations.
Outside of work, he enjoys snowboarding, camping, and soaking up the natural beauty of Utah.
